Production Manager of Arts Center



Function:
Manage the execution of all technical production elements for performing arts instruction programs, community arts programs, community rentals and visiting performing artists. Supervise, hire, train, schedule, direct and evaluate the technical services staff to ensure quality production services, event and labor budget compliance, excellent customer support for facility users and quality work safety practices.

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Manage Arts Center events technical services. Consult with lessees, visiting artists and road managers to identify and/or negotiate event requirements. Review/approve event contract technical riders. Negotiate crew sizes/crew calls, equipment requirements and other resource allocations. Provide technical requirement estimates for lessees. Lead and organize performance production meetings to facilitate communication between Arts Center staff, lessees and ensembles.

2. Ensure quality production services, event and annual labor budget compliance, excellent customer support for facility users and quality work environment safety practices. Supervise, schedule, train, hire, evaluate Technical Services staff. Develop and implement departmental training policies and procedures. Hire temporary staff (e.g. designers, stage managers) for instructional productions. Provide supervision and hands-on support as needed for events, construction and maintenance crew calls.

3. Develop and manage annual technical theatre budget and technical resources. Generate equipment purchases and rentals; manage and replenish supplies inventory. Develop and manage Arts Center technical services budge; assist management with development and management of instructional production budgets.

4. Provide routine and customary maintenance of performance and rehearsal facilities and its equipment.

5. Supervise or perform concert audio recording, audio editing and duplication.

Typical office or administrative conditions (i.e. not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions).

Outdoor weather conditions.

Vibration. Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.

Hazards. (Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to radiation, or exposure to chemicals).

Fumes or airborne particles (Includes fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation).

Required Qualifications:
1. Master's degree (MA) or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

2. Three years technical theater experience.

3. An advanced knowledge of theatrical carpentry, lighting, sound, rigging, etc.

4. A working knowledge of computer lighting systems, audio/recording software and hardware and live sound mixing.

5. Ability to address matters of safety associated with all aspects of theatre production.

6. Strong oral and written communication skills.

7. Excellent organization skills.

8. Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, Excel and Outlook).

Desired Qualifications:
1. Supervisory experience.
