Assessment Librarian

Full/Part Time Status:Full Time Service Schedule:Academic Year + 1 Month

Position Description:

The University of Northern Iowa's Rod Library seeks an energetic, collaborative and innovative individual to serve as its Assessment Librarian to lead the integration of regular assessment practices into the culture of the organization, ensuring shared actions toward assessment goals. They will coordinate assessment data collection, analysis, and documentation; develop an evidence-based approach to achieving strategic objectives related to library operations and user needs; and coordinate projects and support colleagues engaged in assessment work.

The Assessment Librarian will actively serve as a liaison to academic departments and programs in Social Sciences and/or Humanities fields as assigned. Areas of liaison activity include teaching, research consultations, academic outreach, creating and maintaining research guides, and scholarly communication. They will participate in teaching other instructional sessions as needed and will provide in-person and virtual research assistance to faculty, staff, students, and community members.

This is a non-administrative tenure-track faculty position. Participation in library and institutional committees and professional associations and public professional service is expected, as is ongoing research, scholarship, and/or creative work.

Primary Responsibilities: Plans, develops, and implements library-wide assessment programs, initiatives and strategies that enable continuous review, evaluation, and improvement of services;

Coordinates projects and supports colleagues engaged in assessment work, ensuring shared actions toward assessment goals;

Identifies key data to measure the impact of the library's collections, services, and facilities on the successful completion of University goals and student success initiatives;

Coordinates the gathering of library-wide statistics for external surveys;

Works collaboratively with others across campus responsible for assessment;

Teaches research instruction sessions for classes in liaison areas, the Liberal Arts Core, and other areas as needed;

Actively serves as liaison to assigned academic departments or programs. Areas of liaison activity include teaching, research consultations, academic outreach, creating and maintaining research guides, and scholarly communication;

Consults with students, faculty, and staff about research projects, individually or in small groups; and

Provides subject-specific research and reference services in person and through email, online chat, conferencing software, phone, etc.

Education Requirements:

ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information science or international equivalent required.

Required Qualifications:

Additional required qualifications include demonstrated knowledge of processes and software tools for analyzing, drawing insight from, reporting, and/or visualizing data; demonstrated knowledge of current theories, trends, standards, and practices of assessment in academic libraries; demonstrated interpersonal, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills; and a commitment to high ethical standards in data collection and analysis.

Desirable Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with experience articulating the value of academic libraries through quantitative and/or qualitative assessment methodologies; experience using processes and software tools for analyzing, drawing insight from, reporting, and visualizing data; professional work experience in assessment and/or liaison work; demonstrated experience compiling and reporting academic library statistics; evidence of competence in planning, project management, and/or data management; academic library work experience; demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion; teaching experience; and second graduate or other advanced degree.
