The Kinesiology Department is a major academic unit within the College of Science and Mathematics with 500 students at the undergraduate level and 20 at the Graduate level and is a service department offering courses to satisfy kinesiology and health requirements for other academic majors and to meet general education and breadth requirements for all Cal Poly students.
The STRIDE Obesity Research Center is a University Center housed within the Kinesiology Department with research that includes several ongoing multi-million dollar NIH-funded research grants. Projects include several long-term prospective human research studies involving hundreds of community participants, dozens of local community contracts and partners, and several national and international partners. There are approximately 30 staff positions funded by external research grants including researchers, faculty investigators, research staff, a community liaison, database managers, phlebotomists, a technician, student research fellows, medical consultants and a translator. In addition there 20-30 undergraduate and graduate students conducting independent research.
The Department is comprised of an elected Department Chair (3-year term), 13 tenured and tenure track faculty, 20 lecturers, graduate teaching associates and volunteer faculty and 5 staff members providing technical, instructional and administrative support, including this Administrative Support Coordinator (ASC) position, a 10 month Administrative Support Assistant (ASA) and an ASC supporting STRIDE and the department.
Under the general direction of the Department Chair of Kinesiology this position provides administrative coordination and direct support to faculty, staff, and students. Administrative support responsibilities include, but are not limited, to:
Program support including: personnel proceedings; budget and procurement; department support; scheduling and enrollment; and facilities management/special events.
This position must apply clear and appropriate guidelines in all areas of department administration using precedent and current knowledge of university, college and departmental guidelines. An important role of this position is to provide continuity of program operations and administration in light of three year terms for the department chair and frequent committee rotations. In cooperation with the STRIDE administrative support coordinator this position will provide coverage for the administration of STRIDE programs and projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or its equivalent. Type 45 wpm. Five years of general office support or technical experience. (Training at a vocational school or full-time college education may be substituted for two years of the required experience on the basis of one year of college education for 6 months of experience)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, DEGREES, CREDENTIALS: Possession of valid driver's license (or ability to obtain by date of hire).

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Ability to work and maintain a professional and welcoming demeanor in an environment of constant deadlines and interruptions from phone calls or office visitors.
This position classification has been defined as non-exempt and is subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
