Position Summary and Responsibilities Located in the scenic Mid-Hudson Valley, Vassar College is a highly selective, residential, coeducational liberal arts college of 2,500 students. Over sixty percent of the student body receives Vassar funded financial aid in excess of $69 million, with all financial aid awarded solely on the basis of assessed financial need.

Reporting to the Director of Student Financial Services, the Assistant Director is an integral member of the Student Financial Services team. Responsibilities include:
  • Participates in the need analysis and packaging process for first-year and returning students.
  • As part of the Student Financial Services team, work with students regarding term bill payment and work study opportunities
  • Reconciles problems in the packaging of students resulting from differences between Federal and Institutional methodologies in assessing the family contribution.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate.

Responsibilities may include some of the following (dependent on experience):
  • Coordinate day to day student employment operations.
  • Work closely with the Dean of Studies Office in establishing budgets and packaging students approved for study away, and monitoring the receipt of Consortium Agreements.
  • Manage Federal, State and Private Financial Aid Programs (i.e., grant, loans)


Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required, preferably with a minimum of 2 to 4 years of progressive experience with Title IV programs. Requires excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication, and customer service orientation in a technical environment. Must possess an ability to set work priorities and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Good judgment and demonstrated analytical skills needed, and an ability to work both independently, and as a member of a team. Knowledge of and expertise with automated financial aid systems is required (PowerFAIDS preferably).
