The Department of Finance at California State University, Fullerton, invites candidates to apply for a tenure-track position at the open rank of Assistant, Associate, and full professor to begin Fall 2018. Position
We are seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Risk Management & Insurance. The Department is interested in Risk Management & Insurance candidates with solid training, and strong teaching and research potential. The successful applicant is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, advise students, value diversity, serve on the committees, assist the center director in managing the center and engage in activities that benefit the Center for Insurance Studies, department, University, and community. Positive tenure and promotion decisions require excellent teaching, strong scholarly and creative activities which result in publication of high-quality refereed journal articles, and substantial services.

Qualifications

  • A doctorate in Risk Management & Insurance or a related field from an accredited institution is required. ABD's may apply but must show evidence that the degree will be completed by the appointment date.
  • Candidates must have solid training, demonstrated strong teaching and research potential.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Evidence of (or potential for) publications in high quality journals is required.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching is required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, faculty, staff, and external audiences.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with online teachings skills.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

Rank, Salary, & Benefits
This is an open rank tenure-track position. Applicants with significant experience and publication record may be considered at a higher rank. Salary is competitive and commensurate with rank, experience, and qualification. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available. The College
Mihaylo College of Business & Economics is accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) at both the undergraduate and masters levels. There are over 150 full- time faculty members and 8,500 students, including more than 600 graduate students. Bachelors' degrees are offered in Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Entertainment & Tourism, Finance, Management (Operations, General, and Human Resources), Information Systems/Decision Sciences, Marketing, and International Business, among others. Masters' degrees are in Business Administration, Economics, Management Science, Information Technology, Accounting, and Taxation. The Department
The Finance department currently has 18 tenured and tenure-track faculty supplemented by multiple part-time and full-time adjunct faculty members. Tenure-track faculty members have published their research in journals such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Financial Management, the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Risk and Insurance, and Real Estate Economics, among others. The department houses two active centers of excellence - The Center for Insurance Studies and the Real Estate and Land Use Institute. These entities raise funds for extra-curricular student activities and provide opportunities for interaction with the local business community. The Department anticipates launching two new M.S. level degree programs in coming years.

The Center for Insurance Studies (CIS) was established by the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics in 1998. The goal of the center is to create an organization that attracts and educates talented individuals who are committed to professional careers in the industry, including property, life, benefits, risk management, and health care components. The emphasis is on careers in actuarial science, claims, financial planning, insurance marketing, risk management, portfolio management, technology and underwriting. Operating strategies for CIS are constantly being developed and updated with the help of industry professionals. There are actuarial science and RMI concentrations for both undergraduate and graduate.
