Position Description:
ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN MEAT FOOD SAFETY.

The Animal Science Department (ASCI) within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, CA invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure track position with a split appointment in the ASCI Department and the Food Science and Nutrition (FSN) Department within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo, CA. Starting date is negotiable but preferred start date is September 7, 2017. The position involves teaching courses in meat food safety, microbiology, HACCP, meat science, and disciplines appropriate to the expertise of the individual and needs of the departments. The establishment of a scholarly, externally-funded, applied research program is expected. The successful candidate will establish active collaborative relationships with other university faculty and researchers; leaders in the meat food industry, students, and the general public to provide information and leadership related to meat food safety issues. In addition, candidates should be able to provide practical experience and individualized student-learning opportunities such as experiential classes, undergraduate and graduate research projects and student internships.

Duties may also include, but are not limited to, supervision of undergraduate senior projects, graduate student research, team teaching assignments, student advising, on-line courses and teaching graduate level courses and/or in a Master of Professional Studies or certificate program. The successful candidate is expected to participate in scholarly activities (i.e., research, grant writing, publications, presentations, scientific affiliation) as part of his/her professional development. Service activities will include participation on department, college, and university committees and instructional related activities. Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching are required. Particular attention will be afforded to candidates who have industry experience.


Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):


Required Qualifications:
Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Meat Science, Food Science or related discipline. Other considerations include demonstration of excellence in teaching, and effective communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to be a productive team player and to interact well with peers, students, industry, government agencies, and the general public is essential. The ability to collaborate on research with faculty across the College, University, and industry is desirable.

Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates who demonstrate a commitment to diversity, and who have international experience or the desire to cultivate international links, is preferred.

Special Conditions:
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
