Position Summary:
This position is responsible for in the installation, maintenance and repair of complex communication and electronics equipment and cabling for Telecommunications.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
Cabling, installing, maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, modifying, and troubleshooting communication equipment including VOIP phone systems, voice mail systems, presence systems, call routing systems, call accounting systems, analog units, public address systems, automatic dialers, and panic button systems.

Install, terminate, and test indoor/outdoor copper and fiber cable. Make customized cables when necessary.

Train end users on effectively using the resources the Telecommunications department provides.

Assist with the configuration and troubleshooting of presence software and call center software on client computers.

Programming within the phone systems for new employees.

Establishes and coordinates a preventative maintenance program to ensure proper functioning of assigned systems and equipment.

Oversees and coordinates with contractors while on campus doing work.

Works with tech support to correct equipment malfunctions and system issues. Follows-up with corrective actions taken.

Assists with layout and design of new equipment and communications; including development/preparation of specifications, and installation guidelines.

Maintain detailed records of work completed.

Maintain adequate inventory of equipment necessary for day to day repairs/installations.

Travel to remote locations to provide services.

Cover switchboard when necessary.

Setup end user accounts within Zoom.

Attend departmental meetings; participates in Professional Development activities.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Two years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Two years experience in digital switching technology.

Two years experience in telecommunications installation and repair.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics:
Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, analyze, detect and repair equipment and cabling failure and malfunction.

Ability to utilize testing equipment and tools such as ohmmeters, fiber optic test equipment, telecommunication test sets, and electric drills.

Knowledge of desktop computers and software installation.

Basic working knowledge of IP networking, specifically how it relates to VOIP telephony.

Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams, blueprints and electronic schematics.

Ability to plan, organize, prioritize work-flow effectively, and work independently with minimal supervision.

Working knowledge of inside/outside plant cabling standards.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with campus employees, contractors, local telephone company representatives, and the general public.

Ability to travel to off-campus locations when necessary.

Pay Rate: $26,940 - $30,714 annual salary depending on experience
