SOA Student Technician

Position Category: Student (Variable Hour)

Summary:
Under the direction of the Technical Director: build and paint scenery and properties using hand tools, power tools, saws, lumber, metal, fabric, cardboard, sheet stock and paint. Assist with costuming, lighting and sound as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Must be a current student

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction of scenic elements helpful, but not required.

-Knowledge of the arithmetic, algebra, and geometry required for execution of plans and drawings.

- Knowledge of basic shop safety rules and procedures.

- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

- Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.

-Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.

-Ability to quickly move and coordinate fingers, limbs, and body to grasp, manipulate or assemble objects.

- The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.

-Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

-The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction of scenic elements and ability to apply logic in the successful execution, with supervision, of scenic elements.

Physical Requirements:
Will be required to work from ladders or scaffolding. Must be able to lift 40 50 lbs. Must be able to temporarily tolerate paint and solvent fumes.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $8.50 - $10.00
