Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) UW Human Resources Manager, this position performs paraprofessional support work of considerable complexity in the WSLH Human Resources Office related to personnel, human resource and payroll functions. The WSLH is a diversified organizational and occupational facility employing approximately 350 staff (comprised of faculty, academic staff, university staff [permanent, fixed term finite], graduate students, and student hourlies. This position coordinates and performs a wide variety of personnel and payroll/benefits activities in a large centralized human resource office. This position works with three other HR Office staff to provide a high level of support to the organization.

Major duties include, but are not limited to the facilitation of the recruitment of Academic staff, University staff (permanent, finite and LTEs), student (hourly and grad assistants) positions, assist with developing new policies and procedures and organizational initiatives in support of the Strategic Plan and mission of the WSLH, and assist with special projects required for ongoing quality improvement of the HR Office. This position represents the WSLH in activities with other State agencies and other University departments and programs, as requested. This position requires knowledge of quality management tools and principles to initiate, coordinate, and implement continuous improvement in all areas of the division. This position will also assist the WSLH Human Resources Manager by completing as requested other duties as assigned.

The person in this position is expected to use the tools and principles of quality management in performing their daily work including: Demonstrate exceptional customer service by establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships with managers, supervisor, coworkers, and all customers. Provide constructive feedback for the purpose of continuous improvement in a manner that is supportive of the State Laboratory of Hygiene and its mission. Use data collection tools as appropriate. Use effective team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the work unit. Present ideas, carry out assignments, provide information as required, and participate in continuous learning through professional development activities.
