Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's degree preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Prior experience in academic department administration, minimum of 1 year. A strong candidate will demonstrate: 1) the ability to establish and maintain excellent teamwork relationships and communication with other employees and to establish a good rapport with faculty, staff and students; 2) the ability to take initiative, accept responsibility, show accountability, and maintain integrity and confidentiality; 3) excellent analytical and organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously; 4) computer expertise with a variety of software programs including an advanced working knowledge of the full Microsoft Office Suite; 5) ability to delegate work load effectively and introduce new processes to increase efficiency; 6) knowledge of pertinent University, State, Federal and/or non-Federal rules and regulations; 7) knowledge of personnel policies relating to payroll, supervision, affirmative action, discipline, employee assistance, layoffs, training and retention.

Position Summary:

This position serves as the Department Administrator for the Department of Computer Sciences, which is one of the largest in the College of Letters and Science, with a staff of over 300 including faculty, staff, postdocs, and student employees. The position provides administrative leadership to the Department, develops and coordinates administrative policy with the Chair, and serves as the departmental representative in the day-to-day operation and administration of the Department. The department's annual expenditures in excess of $23 million from a variety of fund sources including 101 operating funds as well as gift and grant funds such 133, 135, 136, 144, 150 and 161.

This position manages the Department's administrative activities, which include policy and operations, staff supervision, financial administration, human resources administration, grant administration, student services and liaison with relevant campus offices. This is a complex position due to the wide variety of department units and operations. Department faculty and staff are involved in instruction, complex research, and broad-based service.
