Asst. Professor, Literacy Education

Position Description:

The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Curriculum & Instruction seeks applications for Assistant Professor of Literacy Education in the College of Education. Duties of this position include 50% teaching in the Endorsement program and/or Master's Degree for Literacy Education, and 50% supporting the management of the UNI Literacy Clinic. The State Reading Endorsement is offered on campus and online with the support of the UNI Literacy Clinic Director. Courses may be offered in both formats over the academic year (fall, spring, and summer possible), but at least 50% of the teaching will be delivered online. The successful candidate will serve as the clinic liaison across sites both in the community and at a distance. Administrative duties such as arranging school sites, program evaluation, course assessments, assigning student matches for tutoring, supervising UNI students, responding to online endorsement/MAE inquiries, and preparing materials will make up the remaining 50% portion of the position.

Education Requirements:

Earned doctorate in Literacy or a related field required.

Required Qualifications:

Additional requirements include demonstrated expertise in literacy assessment and instruction (e.g. graduate degree or emphasis in literacy, Reading Recovery training, Reading Endorsement K-8/5-12, literacy coaching); knowledge and/or experience in working with diverse PreK-12 populations to support literacy achievement; excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and knowledge of data management; and three years of experience teaching PreK-8.

Desirable Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with diverse populations; experience supervising/teaching college-level students face to face and/or online; and demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with colleagues, school/community representatives, and parents.
