Working in conjunction with the Communications and Publications Specialist, the Digital Communications Specialist works independently to promote the College of Science and Mathematics' (CSM) reputation and programs to a state, national, and worldwide audience; and develop and enhance relationships between the college and its key constituent groups, including students, parents, alumni, friends and donors, via digital communication methods. In collaboration with the Communications and Publications Specialist, the Digital Communications Specialist will maximize the college's online presence, providing information about the college's departments, programs and activities through the college and department websites, social media and other digital communications.
This position works with the internal college and university communities and in close collaboration with the College of Science and Mathematics, University Development, Annual Giving, University Marketing, and University Communications. The Digital Communications Specialist will work collaboratively with University Marketing to ensure that university-wide standards, branding and messaging are followed. In addition, this position will also participate in the development and execution of communications strategic plans and policies.
The following examples illustrate typical work activities and are not meant to be all inclusive or restrictive:
Websites: Develop, edit and maintain content on college and department websites to maximize the websites as a communications, outreach and academic tool. Ensure that content is consistent with college's key messages and strategic objectives. Work with departments to develop website content and ensure individual department and faculty web pages follow university branding guidelines, Web practices and standards. Coordinate with department chairs and faculty to ensure effective communication and maintain an atmosphere of teamwork with various constituents. Work closely with University Marketing and Annual Giving to coordinate and collaborate on messages, branding, and communication strategies. Ensure that content placed on the college website meets ADA requirements. Assist with online newsletters for the college and departments as needed. Research and analyze current technology trends/practices and implement as appropriate across the college.
Social Media: Develop and implement strategies and messaging for the college's social media platforms. Execute social media campaigns across platforms.
General Communications: Participate in college communications planning. Consult with departments and academic units and contact, interview and correspond with department chairs, faulty, staff, students, alumni, donors, industry representatives and others. Research and analyze topic areas and collect, develop, and organize information for the production of digital material used in public relations. Create and develop internal and external content for others. Assist in developing templates and best practices for college and departmental electronic communications.
Supervision: Provide lead work direction and training to student assistants, including the college web team. Explain and discuss policies and plans, assign duties, give detailed instructions, pertinent information and timelines. Oversee and review work and direct contacts with industry, faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university and three years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and public relations, or a related field. A graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, CREDENTIALS: Possession of a valid California driver's license or the ability to obtain by data of hire.

Retired CalPERS members selected for this vacancy must request and be approved for reinstatement from retirement prior to the start date.
