Job Description Summary

The School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture in Auburn, Alabama, is accepting applications for one year (nine month/two semester) non-tenure track visiting position in the Program of Architecture's Rural Studio program. This position begins August 1 6, 2017. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Rank is dependent on previous university-level teaching and scholarship experience.

Rural Studio is seeking applicants with an established, ongoing base of academic scholarship and expertise in at least one the following areas: building performance, residential enclosures, assemblies, and construction, affordable housing, or collaborative practice. Position is designed for the successful applicant to test and expand their research via applied, context based instruction at the third year level of a professional Bachelor of Architecture degree program.

Applied research and Instruction is part of Rural Studio, a design-build outreach program within the degree program in the Auburn Program of Architecture. Rural Studio is a remote, residency-based venue in Newbern, Alabama. Located in the Black Belt Region of West Alabama, Newbern (population 225) is part of the Tuscaloosa Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is made up of Hale, Pickens, and Tuscaloosa Counties. Newbern is approximately 145 miles from Auburn University's main campus.

Minimum Qualifications

Requirements for this position include: a master's degree in architecture or other terminal degree in a related field.

Desired Qualifications

Desired qualifications include: evidence of outstanding design skills, experience teaching in a professional degree program via design-build teaching methods, and professional registration.
