Job Description Summary

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology is seeking candidates at the Full or Associate Professor level for an Eminent Scholar position. The holder of the Alfa Endowed Eminent Scholar Chair will demonstrate excellence in research, teaching and service /outreach. The successful candidate will have received national and international recognition through publications in scholarly journals, success in acquiring external funding, teaching, and stakeholder engagement. Key stakeholders include agricultural producers, industry, non-profit organizations, and organizations involved in the formulation of policies for food and agriculture.
The ALFA Eminent Scholar endowment will provide support for the successful candidate to: 1) continue and extend an outstanding record of scholarly research, 2) teach in the Department's undergraduate and/or graduate programs; and 3) provide leadership in a specific research area in partnership with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, Auburn University, state, national, and international organizations and stakeholders. Applications are encouraged from scholars who research a diverse range of topics that relate to natural resources (energy, water, soil, biodiversity), food and nutrition (health, consumer issues), community development (rural development, labor, entrepreneurship), farm and agribusiness management (marketing, production, finance, technology), or agriculture policy (farm policy, domestic ag policy, trade policy, ag law).
Position: This ALFA Eminent Scholar Chair is a nine-month, teaching and research appointment. The position has a five-year renewable term with tenure in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology.

Salary/Appointment: The salary for the ALFA Eminent Scholar is negotiable and competitive based on qualifications. The endowment provides a salary supplement and funds annually to support the incumbent's research program. The starting date is negotiable after closing date. Research/teaching percentages in the appointment are also negotiable.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications: Ph.D. in agricultural economics or related field. The candidate must meet university and departmental standards for tenure and promotion at the Associate or Full Professor level. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.
