Salary: Commensurate with experience and education

Job Summary: The Psychologist is responsible for promoting positive mental health in students by providing direct clinical services such as assessments, crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, consultation with faculty and staff, and outreach to campus community on mental health issues.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

Provides direct clinical services to students in areas related to emotional, social, personal, academic, and relationship concerns through assessment, time-limited individual and couples counseling, and group counseling. Provides assistance for individuals and groups who require immediate assistance by crisis intervention and consultation with various University personnel to assist in resolution of concerns and situations of conflict. Provides outreach to university community on developmental needs of college-age students, mental health and wellness issues, and prevention.

Collaborates with the Director of Mental Health Services and professional colleagues regarding case management and referral of clients with long term or serious psychological and psychiatric diagnosis to appropriate specialists and agencies outside the university setting. Participates in various Student Affairs activities and committees, and networks and collaborates with other University departments.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Required Education and Experience:
  • Earned Ph.D. or Psy.D in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in university counseling center, which may include a pre-doctoral internship from an APA-accredited site.


Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
  • Licensed psychologist in State of Texas or on-track to receive Psychology license within 6 months of hire

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge and experience with group counseling; demonstrated interest, expertise, and experience providing outreach to college-age population
  • Skill in excellent oral and written communication including clinical documentation.
  • Skill with electronic technology, including electronic scheduling, medical record-keeping, internal communication, web-based technology for programming and promotion, presentation technology such as MS PowerPoint or Keynote; demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships.
  • Skill in clinical and counseling techniques, especially the ability to form therapeutic alliance with college-age clients, good diagnostic and crisis-intervention skills, and demonstrated ability with time-limited therapy.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with supervisor, colleagues, and clients in a university environment.


Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.


Work Environment:
  • Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.

  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
