The Facilities Management and Development (FMD) organization is a unit within the Administration and Finance division and is responsible for the management and development of facilities on the university campus. The Facilities Project Supervisor works within the Poly Canyon Village Mixed Trade Shop of the Facilities Operations Department of FMD which is responsible for providing quality maintenance and minor repair and renovation services that meet or exceed our customers' expectations. This purpose of the Poly Canyon Village Mixed Trade Shop is to provide maintenance and repair services for assigned campus buildings and associated areas and equipment.
Under general supervision, the Facilities Project Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating the work of one or more small groups or crews consisting of skilled multi-trade crafts workers and assistants in the maintenance, repair, construction, and renovation of various facilities and structures. This position also provides comprehensive technical project leadership, acts as a key liaison with customers, coordinates job estimates, and ensures supplies and materials are available for jobs.

Prioritize and coordinate the work of one or more groups or crews or projects assigning work to qualified crew members.
Provide work and safety instructions and on-the-job training and instructions to less skilled workers in trade and safety practices.
Provide input on performance evaluations, recruitments, training, and procedures.
Monitor work in progress and inspect completed work, including work by contractors to ensure compliance with specifications, special instructions, and sound trade practices.
Work on new construction and remodels, which involves collaborating with engineering and design departments, interpreting complicated plans and drawings and sequencing work.
Coordinate work schedules and work assignments to meet the overall construction/modification objectives.
Ensure the availability of required materials and equipment.
Analyze operations and prepare cost and time estimates.
Provide a high level of inspection to ensure appropriate building and safety codes are met.
Design minor tenant improvements.
Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures and generate reports as required by regulatory agencies.
Participate in the maintenance and operations of the shop including cleaning, maintaining and servicing of tools, and equipment used in the performance of duties.
Maintain records, retrieve data, and prepare standard reports related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems, and/or maintenance management systems.
Consult, coordinate, and work with other trades workers and provide instruction and lead work direction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants.
Perform duties and responsibilities in a professional and courteous manner using available resources to solve problems, and regularly contribute to and promote a team player atmosphere with a service-oriented attitude.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Two years of experience working as a journey-level crafts worker in one or more building trades including one year in a lead/supervisory capacity. Must have demonstrated achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through the completion of an applicable apprenticeship program.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, DEGREES, CREDENTIALS:
Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
This position may require the ability to obtain AHERA Supervisor certification for asbestos related work and Cal/OSHA Lead training.

Ability to wear respiratory protection. A Cal/OSHA mandated medical evaluation is required prior to the use of a respirator.
Ability to work in and around confined spaces; perform heavy lifting up to 45 lbs.; and squat, kneel and crawl.
Ability to work around high and low temperature (350 to -40 degrees) equipment and high and low temperature (140 to -40 degrees) areas for short period of time.
Ability to work around large and noisy equipment with many moving parts.
Ability to work at heights, including bucket trucks or other high lift equipment.
Ability to utilize both hands to safely manipulate the parts and tools of a building or construction trade.
Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
This position classification has been defined as "Non Exempt" and is therefore subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
This position may require the ability to obtain AHERA Contractor/Supervisor certification for Asbestos Related Work with annual refresher training and Cal/OSHA Lead in Construction training with annual retraining, as well as, the ability to wear respiratory protection appropriate for the hazard encountered. A Cal/OSHA mandated medical evaluation is required prior to the use of a respirator.
Retired CalPERS members selected for this vacancy must request and be approved for reinstatement from retirement prior to the start date. Employment of retired CalPERS members will typically be for 90 days or less and must be for work requiring specialized skills or for a bona fide emergency to prevent stoppage of business.
