Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's Degree in industrial design, engineering, architecture or related field.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

- 3 years of experience in design and/or design-related instruction.
-Experience with the maintenance and use of digital fabrication equipment (e.g. 3D printers, laser cutters) and a wide variety of materials, e.g., wood, plastic, metals, etc.
-Skill with a variety of machine tools and fabrication techniques, including the ability to maintain and repair the equipment.
-Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with students, staff and faculty by explaining new and unfamiliar procedures and helping them find solutions to fabrication problems.
-An understanding of current safety procedures including the proper handling of tools, machinery and materials.
-Basic knowledge of microelectronics and programming.

Position Summary:

The Grainger Engineering Design Innovation Laboratory is being designed to provide an accessible, safe, and broad opportunity for students to create prototypes and final products based on their engineering design ideas. Students will use the facility for both curricular and extra-curricular activities.

The Shop Manager of the Grainger Engineering Design Innovation Laboratory will be in charge of the daily operations of the facility, which includes training, use and maintenance. This will include helping create and implement a set of policies, procedures and budget. The Shop Manager will also support programs and provide design and fabrication advice to the users of the space.

The Shop Manager of the Grainger Engineering Design Innovation Laboratory reports to the Director of the Grainger Engineering Design Innovation Laboratory.
