Academic Achievement Center Learning Services Coordinator (Program Coordinator)


The Office of First Year Programs and Learning Communities (FYP & LC) offers an exciting menu of programs designed to assist students with their transition from high school to college, as well as aid in their persistence, success and retention at the University of Connecticut. The Academic Achievement Center is designed to support students academically as they transition to and persist at the University.

Under the direction of the designated administrator in FYP & LC, the Academic Achievement Center Learning Services Coordinator, develops and administers day-to-day program activities and provides educational support to the students of the Academic Achievement Center (AAC), housed in First Year Programs and Learning Communities.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing administrative coordination for departmental initiatives such as the planning and execution of large FYP, LC & AAC events, programs, conferences, meetings and seminars with responsibility to make and coordinate all necessary arrangements, including travel; assist in advising students or participants regarding academic programs and in the recruitment, training and monitoring of peer education programs such as student mentors, coaches and Supplemental Instruction leaders; assist in developing and implementing outreach efforts for students' academic success; monitor student progress and compliance with University scholastic standards, course and graduation requirements and assist with program evaluation and data collection needed for department performance reports; create, manage and oversee various program databases such as UConn Connects, special student cohorts, and annual programmatic successes; and process and maintain administrative and student records and electronic files.

Additionally, this position will assist in provide support for FYP & LC department as needed; serve as a liaison with other University offices, external organizations and the public; is responsible for developing and maintaining constructive, professional working relationships with faculty, staff, students and all levels of University administrators; participate in instructing FYE (first year experience) course(s), and potentially other department course(s); assist in the supervision, training, evaluation and assignment of tasks to student workers; establish work schedules and work priorities; recommend student staffing needs and assist in hiring decisions; and may be responsible for special projects that require technical knowledge and an understanding of the unit's programs and activities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in education or related field.
  • Three to four years of work experience in education.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing and managing various databases and/or information systems.
  • Ability to provide academic support.
  • Ability to effectively implement recruiting strategies.
  • Ability to interpret educational records and related information.
  • Office management experience, including the ability to perform and coordinate administrative functions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel and Publisher or similar software.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Volunteer management experience.
  • The ability to work in a team environment.
  • Willingness and ability to work occasional evening, weekend or irregular hours to support programs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in education, counseling or related field.
  • Ability to advise, guide and work with students.
  • Web site design experience.
  • Working knowledge of WordPress.
  • Familiarity with Peoplesoft Student Administration System.
  • Experience using social media.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Higher education experience.

Appointment Terms

This is a full-time, permanent 12-month position. Salary will be commensurate with successful candidate's qualifications and experience and position includes a comprehensive benefits package.
