The University of Utah Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition seeks an investigator to lead a research program. This individual should excel in laboratory and/or clinical/epidemiological research in the general area of gastroenterology or hepatology. Academic track (tenure-track or research), rank (Assistant, Associate, Full), salary and start-up funds will be commensurate with qualifications, needs
and career goals. An endowed chair is potentially available to accompany the appointment, depending on the candidate's qualifications and academic accomplishments.

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition is a unit of the University of Utah Department of Internal Medicine, which has a long history in discovery and translational investigation. Utah is a notable environment for conducting research, serving as the only academic Health Sciences Center within a 500-mile radius. Utah is widely recognized for its strengths in cancer genetics, informatics and advances in health information technology. The Department of Internal Medicine faculty includes many investigators with creative, funded programs in basic, translational and clinical research. The School of Medicine research portfolio is an umbrella for initiatives in oncology, diabetes and metabolism, neurobiology, and immunology, inflammation, and infectious diseases. The Utah Genome Project is advancing the genetic basis of human diseases to a new level. Several prominent research institutes house thematic investigational programs on the medical center campus, including the internationally-known Huntsman Cancer Institute ( HCI ), a NCI -designated comprehensive cancer center which will double its research space in the Summer of 2017. The University and HCI are home to exceptional shared resources, including the Utah Population Database, with more than 16 million records linking genealogies, health records, and vital statistics; genomics/metabolomics/proteomics resources; and extensive biospecimen repository. The University Health Sciences Center provides access to state-of-the-art equipment and services exceptional Core Facilities (see www.cores.utah.edu) that enhance both discovery and translational science. The University of Utah offers robust graduate programs for training PhD and MD/PhD students. Intermountain Healthcare and the Veterans Affairs Salt Lake City Health Care System are two key teaching and research affiliates.
These are but a few of the facets of the vibrant University of Utah research environment.

Applicants mus have a MD, PhD, or MD/PhD degree and a demonstrated record of accomplishment as an independent investigator in clinical, translational or basic science. Areas of emphasis include but are not limited to, GI cancers, GI cancer genetics, IBD , and/or hepatology. Candidates who anticipate clinical activities must be eligible for licensure in Utah.

The position will entail engagement with individuals representing multiple disciplines, across a variety of operational and investigative roles. There will be abundant opportunities to collaborate with established researchers in other divisions and departments, including but not limited to the Molecular Medicine Program, Huntsman Cancer Institute (www.huntsmancancer.org) Institute and Pathology/Immunology.

Preference will be given to applicants with a strong track record in their areas of expertise, as evidenced by first or senior author scientific publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, conference presentations, federal funding, and/or recognition in the national and international communities.

The successful candidate will be appointed at a faculty rank, line and salary appropriate to his/her qualifications. Candidate review begins immediately, continuing until the position is filled or the search is closed.
