Degree and area of specialization:

A Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, community outreach, sociology, or a health-related field is required.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

- Two or more years of communications and marketing related program experience preferred.
- Professional experience coordinating events and conferences is required.
- Experience conducting telephone and/or in-person interviews preferred.
- Experience with health communications, website development, and/or public relations are preferred.
- Excellent writing skills with particular focus on communicating via web-based materials for both scientific and lay audiences and development of newsletters.
- Experience in project coordination with the ability to work on and track multiple projects simultaneously strongly preferred.

Position Summary:

The Outreach Specialist at the UW Carbone Cancer Center will support its cancer epidemiology research program, including a national study focused on the environmental and genetic factors that influence breast cancer risk across the lifespan. As the coordinating center, we promote cross-project collaboration of nine projects involving researchers and organizations focused on breast cancer prevention and environmental health. In addition, this position will also support the Cancer Prevention and Outcomes Data Shared Resource (C-POD), which promotes cancer research by providing cancer population data exchange survey research consultation and data collection services. The position will also support the American Society of Preventive Oncology (ASPO) which is a national multi-disciplinary society committed to serving as an advocate for cancer prevention and control research.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with others, both internally and externally to the UW.
- Strong aptitude with technology, including basic website design and maintenance, and web-based communication tools such Adobe Connect.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

This position is a fixed-term terminal position that will initially last for one year from the start date. This appointment may be extended to two years, and may also be converted to a renewable position if additional funding can be secured.
