Development Associate

Summary: The Development Associate assists the Director of Development in identifying and soliciting prospective donors for annual fund gifts up to $25,000 and low-end major gifts up to $25,000 to support Wake Forest University's fundraising initiatives. Manages a portfolio and works closely with the Director of Development to strengthen relationships to increase philanthropic support during this two-year fellowship position. This position will also be responsible for digital solicitation strategies. This is a two-year position.

Essential Functions:
  • Manages the annual fund solicitations ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 and Major Gift solicitations of $25,000 to support Wake Forest University.
  • Meets with alumni, parents, and friends and determines their level of support/engagement, market composition, and ways to increase communication.
  • Meets with potential prospects to identify inclination, capacity, and potential involvement.
  • Manages portfolio of donors and prospects with specific fundraising goals and benchmarks.
  • Solicits donors for support of the Wake Forest Fund, giving societies and other programs/projects as appropriate.
  • Solicits donors for support using digital solicitation strategies outlined by the Annual Fund team and Individual Giving team.
  • Meets and exceeds goals for monthly visits, solicitations and commitments, and effectively manages a large group of prospects.
  • Documents fundraising progress through call reports, cultivation strategy updates, and other communication materials as necessary.
  • Works closely with Director of Development to implement regional fundraising strategy.
  • Communicates effectively between different departments.
  • Participates in frequent regional travel related to the Wake Will capital campaign.
  • Conducts outreach, schedules appointments, and communicates results and appropriate assessments.
  • Monitors travel budget and expenditures.
  • Represents the University in various institutional divisions as well as the general public and local community. Maintains current knowledge of university-wide institutional priorities.
  • Assists with and participates in all University Advancement functions and campaign events as necessary.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree or a member of an undergraduate graduating class for the most recent/current academic year.
  • Knowledge and a clear understanding of Wake Forest University, its component schools, and programs.
  • Detail-oriented in coordinating activities.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills in prioritizing workflow and managing resources.
  • Ability to manage and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to multi-task and demonstrate sound judgment and discretion.
  • Excellent proficiency in Windows, Google Calendar, Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint), the internet, and other relevant software. Proficiency in the operation of standard office equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to research, collect, and analyze data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of the University policies and procedures, or ability to acquire knowledge in a short period of time.
  • Ability to be a team player and willingness to take initiative.
  • Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours as needed.
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally as necessary.
  • Ability to meet requirements of the University's automobile insurance.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Current Wake Forest University seniors and alumni in the past two graduating classes.

Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for own work only.
  • Responsible for monitoring travel and entertainment budget.
