Job Summary:

This lead worker position is responsible for guiding and directing the activities of permanently assigned and temporary employees. The scope of duties includes, but is not limited to, the following activities:

* Perform and oversee grounds maintenance tasks
* Assist with the layout of planting sites
* Oversee various and diverse landscape projects
* Establish and maintain a turf maintenance program consistent with quality standards
* Assist in locating and selecting seed, sod and plant materials
* Record and maintain inventories of tools and chemicals
* Research and evaluate new products and equipment
* Provide basic training for temporary employees and entry level permanent help.

Work is performed under general supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor.

Requirements:

Must possess, or have the ability to obtain within six months or prior to passing probation, a Commercial Driver's License with air brake and tank endorsement(s), which meets the UW Risk Management Standards, and maintain ability to drive State of Wisconsin vehicles.

Based upon the requiring the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License to pass probation, this position requires employees to be able to speak, read, write and understand verbal instructions in English.

Must possess, or have the ability to obtain a commercial pesticide applicator license for ornamental and turf pest control.

Schedule Comment:

7:00 am - 3:30 pm, with a 30 min unpaid lunch break, Monday - Friday.

Starting pay is based on experience and qualifications, with a minimum starting rate of $15.83 an hour and maximum rate of $21.81 an hour.
