Job Summary:

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is consistently ranked among the top 10 chemical and biological engineering programs nationally at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The department enrolls about 300 undergraduate students and 120 graduate students, with all graduate students holding paid appointments. The department and associated centers employ 20 faculty members, 16 staff, 20 postdoctoral researchers, and 20 student hourly employees. In addition, the department, and affiliated centers have active summer programs that bring in large numbers of visitors. Members of the department include many international graduate students, visitors, and staff.

CBE has an operating budget of approximately $4 million in GPR funding, with an additional $11.4 million in research and other activities from a variety of funding sources (101,133, 135, 136, 144, 150, 161, 162, and 233). Additionally, a major research center with funding of over $5 million annually is located administratively within the department.

This position requires a thorough knowledge of university, college, and departmental operating procedures, application of established accounting principles, and interpretation of ever-changing agency, state, federal, and donor rules and regulations in the maintenance, reconcilliation, and analysis of accounts. Extensive knowledge of established accounting and bookkeeping principles and best practices, as well as of UW-Madison purchasing and travel rules and regulations are also required. The successful candidate must be well-versed in the use of computerized accounting systems and web-based programs.

Requirements:

One to two years of prior financial experience required.
