2016-17 UCSB Dept. of Black Studies Lecturer Pool

The Department of Black Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for temporary lecturer positions (part-time) for the 2016-17 academic year as well as temporary lecturer positions (part-time) for Summer Session 2017. The number of positions and areas varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the department. Salary is based on UC’s salary scales and depends on qualifications. Review of applications will begin February 28, 2017 and will remain open until October 31, 2017.

Successful applicants must hold a Ph.D., Ed.D., J.D., or M.F.A. and have a minimum of one year teaching experience. Preference will be given to applicants with degrees in Black Studies, African American Studies, African Diaspora Studies, African Studies, or related fields. The department is interested in scholars whose teaching and research focuses on the following areas: African American History, African History, African & African American music, African & African American Literature, History of Enslavement, Urban Studies, Black Radical Tradition, Environmental Justice, Housing and Public Policy, Prison Industrial Complex, Black Film Studies, Queer Studies, Black Feminist & Women’s Studies, Racism and Science, U.S. Civil Rights Movement, Caribbean Studies, and intersections of race, class, gender and sexuality in African/Caribbean/African-American or Diasporic Studies.

The department will only review complete applications. A complete application must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching, relevant teaching evaluations, sample syllabi, and and three letters of reference.
