Summer Temporary - Physical Plant Assistant

Salary: $9.00 per hourly

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

This position is for the Summer months of 2017 and will begin on or after May.

Job Summary: The Physical Plant Assistant (Summer Temporary) is responsible for assisting departments by maintaining and repairing equipment. Departments include: Painting, Carpentry, Electrical, Mechanical, Warehouse, Landscaping and Grounds.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

Maintains plant materials by mowing, edging, trimming, weeding, and planting. Applies water, fertilizer and other chemicals to plants and landscape. Maintains hardscape appearance by picking up trash; painting, installing and repairing signs; digging, grading and repairing surfaces. Performs minor repairs of buildings and equipment. Performs a wide variety of general and semiskilled maintenance activities (e.g. carpentry, painting, electrical, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects within established time frames. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Required: Satisfactory results from a post-offer physical examination.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to operate equipment required to perform the job.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally.
  • Ability to apply care and maintenance techniques to landscape and hardscape materials.


Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.


Work Environment:
  • Work is indoors and outdoors and not sedentary. Work is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
