Job Summary:

This position provides a variety of fiscal and administrative support to the Department of Pathobiological Sciences (PBS) in the School of Veterinary Medicine. The department has a variety of complex funds, and payrolled personnel include faculty, academic and university staff, LTE, graduate students and student hourly. Funding sources for the departments include 101, 133, 135, 136, 142, 144, 150 and foundation accounts. This position is responsible for following Federal, State, University and School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) policies and procedures while processing various fiscal transactions. This position troubleshoots purchasing issues on behalf of the department and prepares a variety of general accounting forms. Responsibilities include interpretation and knowledge of a broad variety of projects and accounting transactions, resolving problems relative to fiscal matters along with implementing operational and procedural changes to improve efficiency. The position requires good written and oral communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with UW faculty/staff, and administrative offices. The ability to work independently, to exercise sound judgment and discretion, in developing, applying and interpreting UW financial policies and procedures is imperative. The Financial Specialist duties are performed under general supervision of the Department Administrator in compliance with university and agency guidelines within established procedures.
This position also provides broad administrative support to the department, in addition to some HR-related tasks, all under the direction of the department chair and the department administrator.
