Job Summary
Under the direction of the Manager of Library Technology, the Library Web Analyst provides lead technical support and management of the library's website. Builds, tests, and manages production and development environments. Maintains customization of the library website's content management system, WordPress, including custom themes and plugins, with a focus on responsive design and accessibility. Designs and develops web applications in both development and production environments. Requires proficiency with PHP-based content management systems, HTML, and CSS.

Supports integrated library system. As a member of the Orbis Cascade Alliance, PCC currently uses Ex Libris's Alma/Primo in a consortial installation. The Library Web Analyst is responsible for customization of the Library's Primo instance and for performing other aspects of systems administration in Alma/Primo, including integration with college information and authentication systems.

Responsibilities/Duties

- Provides lead technical support for the library's website. Builds, tests, and manages production and development environments. Collaborates with library staff on development, maintenance, and/or redesign issues. Leads the maintenance and continual improvement of delivered services, development environments, system architectures and operational procedures. Monitors and implements appropriate standards and guidelines (including accessibility standards).
- Configures, updates, and maintains customization of a content management system for the library's website, including the underlying database infrastructure. Designs and develops web applications in both development and production environments; installs software updates and patches as needed. Develops web functionality to ensure accessibility of library's online presence in accordance to Web Content Accessibility Guideline 2.0 and provide optimal experiences for multiple devices using responsive design principles or similar techniques.
- Manages application software, application infrastructure and third party application environments. Including installation, upgrades and patches, tuning, creating links and interfaces between systems, developing application-specific security, performance monitoring and troubleshooting. Tests, maintains, and monitors system processes. Work must be coordinated with other college departments (and other institutions) to ensure integration between systems.
- Serves as the library's coordinator for the library's integrated library system and discovery interface. Duties include: visual branding and configuration; coordinating system integration with other college departments; supporting other library departments in configuration of functional areas of resource management, fulfillment, and discovery; troubleshooting system problems. Serves as point of contact for system vendor for troubleshooting and enhancement requests. Involves extensive collaboration with multiple departments in the library, at the college, and regionally with other Orbis Cascade Alliance libraries.
- Manages the library's server access. Works collaboratively with the college's IT department. Assists with the design, maintenance, and operation of specialized library systems (including, but not limited to, the proxy server and other library hosted web services).
- Plans work in response to planned changes in infrastructure and vendor application support. Reconciles vendor driven enhancements with user requested improvements to determine appropriate level of vendor vs. in-house work necessary to meet user needs. Manages application life cycles by using key needs and upgrade timelines to recommend and schedule projects.
- Performs problem analysis to resolve system or application issues. Performs complex diagnosis of problems, providing solutions within area of responsibility, and/or through consulting; coordinates implementation of fixes and enhancements. Responds to critical issues during off hours when necessary.
- Manages the installation and configuration of new library-related hardware and software. Works closely with college IT staff to ensure compatibility.
- Participates in selecting vendors and monitoring applicable contracts to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Writes and maintains documentation of procedures and workflow processes.
- Designs, plans, implements, and evaluates the present and future technology needs of the Library, making recommendations for implementation.
- Maintains current awareness of technological developments in library unified resource management systems and information delivery, software development, systems and application support, as well as user support practices.
- Represents the library on various college-wide and regional library committees.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in a computer-related discipline required (relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis).

Two years of experience (full-time equivalent) working with an integrated library system and web development experience.

Knowledge of: Web development and/or relational database management including multiple operating systems, compilers, security procedures, and disaster recovery methodologies; all phases of systems analysis techniques, concepts and methods; available system software, hardware and the regulations, structure, techniques and management practices of one or more subject-matter areas.

Ability to: Configure systems to be consistent with institutional policies/procedures and State/Federal guidelines; communicate technical and complex information both orally and in writing, and to influence others toward a stated objective; to effectively train and present materials and coordinate the work of others.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work is performed in an office environment; regular exposure to video screen, electrical and electronic equipment. Requires the need to be continually aware of changing events, situations and technologies and to upgrade skills accordingly. Interruptions and distractions, plus the need to shift attention occur on a regular basis. Learned physical skill is required for keyboarding and use of peripheral equipment. Minimal physical exertion required.


Special/Preferred Qualifications 

- Experience developing, maintaining, and supporting secure web applications (PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, advanced JavaScript such as AngularJS, CSS)

- Experience administering, configuring, updating, and customizing content management systems (WordPress preferred)

- Experience administering web server applications in Linux and IIS

- Experience assessing and implementing accessible web applications according to standard guidelines, such as WCAG 2.0

- Experience integrating various systems through APIs
