Laborer Agricultural I


Position Summary:

Perform and assist in routine agricultural labor, including but not limited to hoophouse (passive solar greenhouse) production and maintenance and assisting with undergraduate farm work crews in farm work tasks; assist farm manager with crop planning and seed orders; maintain records and prepare documents for USDA Organic Certification; assist with planting, cultivating, pest management and harvest of vegetable crops; assist with transplant production; assist with repair and maintenance and modifying hoophouse structures; assist with sales and delivery of produce, operate tractors, and trucks with attachments such as plows, discs, transplanter, drags, drills and cultivators. This position is located at 3291 College Road, Holt, Michigan.
Faculty: Minimum Qualifications Support Staff: Minimum Requirements

One year satisfactory agricultural work experience; possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator license(s) is necessary; frequent lifting of over 75 pounds is required; requires possession of appropriate Pesticide Application Registration/Certification; requires possession or attainment of an MSU Fork Lift operator's permit prior to completion of applicable probation or trial period. This position requires knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.
Desired Qualifications:

Three years of training and work experience in hoophouse growing and vegetable seeding production; working knowledge of year round Organic farming operations; working knowledge of Community Supported Agriculture operation and farm stand/farmer's market; experience in leading farm crews; experience in operation of agricultural machinery; experience with hoophouse construction and maintenance; working knowledge of USDA organic certification procedures.
