Part Time Benefits Assistant


Title: Part Time Benefits Assistant

Department: Human Resources

Campus: Queens

Summary

This position is responsible for day to day administrative, transactional and customer service support of the Benefits area.

Duties and Responsibilities

Administration:
  • Review and process assigned billing
  • Review audit reports and monitor information to ensure compliance with data standards.
  • Process enrollments, terminations, changes, payroll deductions, personnel records, for new hires, terminating employees, and retirees into the banner system and individual insurance carriers as applicable.
  • Notify COBRA carrier of qualifying events, ensure COBRA letters are mailed, reconcile delinquency reports from vendor.
  • Collect and distribute mail to Compensation and Benefits department.
  • Complete assigned correspondence to participants as assigned.
  • Provide administrative support to both the Director and Manager of the area.

Customer Service:
  • Provide first level customer service to employees who have benefit questions, by answering phones, walk in questions and emails in a timely manner.
  • Handle employee questions and process benefits during high volume periods.
  • Provide phone coverage for Department and disseminate messages as appropriate.
  • Provide coverage for reception area as needed.

Record and file maintenance:
  • File employment and benefit paperwork including, but not limited to, benefit enrollments, cobra enrollments, personnel change forms and beneficiary designations.
  • Archive files as necessary throughout the year.


Perform other duties as assigned by Director and Manager

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma required.
  • 1 - 3 years work experience required in customer service/data entry
  • Excellent customer service, time management and organizational skills.
  • Detailed oriented.
  • Able to meet deadlines while handling multiple tasks in a fast paced environment that has constantly changing workflow priorities.
  • Flexibility to adjust hours as needed during high peak times, including days that the University may be closed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Experience using Banner software or other HRIS system, Internet and e-mail


  • Maximum 20 hours per week (Total may be less than 20 hours on certain weeks)
