Job Summary:

Starting pay is based on experience, with a minimum starting rate of $15.42 per hour.

The primary purpose of the Psychology Department Financial Specialist position to provide fiscal support to the department faculty, staff, students, and others. It supports post award Federal and non-Federal research activities for all members of the Department, one of the largest departments in the College of Letters and Science. This position is responsible for fiscal management of the Psychology Department extramural resources, developing and maintaining financial data and all appropriate record keeping systems for multiple grants and for all funds in the Department including GPR (101), Hilldale (161), Grad School (135), Federal grants (144), Foundation Gift Accounts (233), and the revenue producing accounts (136).The Psychology department has financial operations and activities totaling more than $12.5M.

This position performs exact accounting, transactions, record keeping, and analytical services for the Department. This position is responsible and accountable for proper controls and the accuracy of each transaction. This position provides fiscal management of the federal, state, gift and foundation supported accounts within the Department of Psychology. This position requires a thorough knowledge of university, school and internal departmental operating procedures; application of
established accounting principles and interpretation of ever changing federal state, university, and donor regulations in the maintenance, reconciliation and analysis of accounts. Extensive knowledge of established accounting and bookkeeping principles and practices as well as of UW-Madison purchasing and travel rules and regulations is also required. Must be extremely well versed in the use of computerized spreadsheet programs, particularly Microsoft Excel.

This position trains, provides advice, interprets rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines to faculty, staff, graduate assistants, subordinates, and the general public. On-going contacts are maintained with a variety of UW personnel in the offices of Research and Sponsored Programs, UW Graduate School, UW Foundation, College of Letters and Science Business Office, Purchasing Services, Cash Management, Physical Plant, Car Fleet, Stores, Risk Management, and Property Control in addition to individuals outside the University (funding agency personnel, external vendors, banking institutions, travel agents, general public, etc.).
