Career Counselor (Program Administrator, UCP 6), School of Business Undergradua


The School of Business Office of Undergraduate Career Development (UCDO) is seeking a full-time Career Counselor (Program Administrator, UCP 6). The incumbent will report to the Assistant Director of the Undergraduate Career Development Office and, in partnership with other colleagues in the department, will meet with undergraduate business students with regard to career exploration and development, help develop relationships with employers, coordinate career-related events and training sessions, as well as coordinate and manage the day-to-day administrative activities of the UCDO. The position will be based at the Storrs campus. Nights and weekends will be required in support of program events. Occasional travel both in-state and out-of-state will also be required.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Meeting one-on-one with undergraduate students and student groups to discuss the process of career development, job search strategies and career exploration.
  • Assisting in delivering career development programs both in a classroom setting and on an individual basis to undergraduate students.
  • Assisting business majors with resume and cover letter development as well as other job search communications.
  • Conducting practice/case interviews, discussing negotiation strategies and equipping students with valuable networking strategies.
  • Researching the job market and hiring trends to support students' career management goals and job search.
  • Coordinating and supporting external employer recruiting relationships; meeting with employers to understand employer hiring and recruitment efforts.
  • Assisting in the development of student job search strategies.
  • Assisting with the planning, development, and evaluation of UCDO programs, meetings, workshops and events.
  • Coordinating and managing certain administrative responsibilities for the UCDO, including surveys, compliance and financial records.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, counseling or related field.
  • Four to five years of related professional experience.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, administrators, and business leaders, external agencies and the public.
  • Demonstrated excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Proven experience working independently and using sound judgment when making decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience in corporate recruitment, professional hiring and development, or career coaching in either a corporate environment or undergraduate level program with an emphasis on career development.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully present information to small and large groups.
  • Demonstrated experience with event or workshop planning including marketing of events.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Willingness and ability to work some irregular, flexible hours including evening and weekend hours, and travel in-state or out-of-state as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience working as a career advisor in a higher education career development office.
  • Demonstrated experience working with college/university level students.
  • Demonstrated experience working with corporate executives in college recruiting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations of students in a career-related setting.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing marketing strategies to market events to diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated experience handling administrative and fiscal functions.
