Technical Assistant, Library Circulation - Evenings


Title: Technical Assistant - Evenings

Department: Library- Circulation

Job Summary:

Evening Supervisor to library staff and student workers. Provide accurate and timely circulation and reserve service. Be alert to conditions throughout the building and notify appropriate individual and/or department when conditions warrant attention and notification. Hours: Monday- Thursday - 3pm - 11pm; Fri. 1:30pm - 8pm. Flexibility with work schedule and position responsibilities, as necessary.

Responsibilities:
  • Main Position Responsibility: To deliver timely service from the 3rd floor Service Desk. This includes responding to Circulation, Reserves, Reference, Interlibrary Loan, Media, etc. inquiries. Responding to in house and telephone inquiries with accurate information.
  • Supervision of staff and student assistants assigned to the evening shift. This includes training, assigning tasks, overseeing and reinforcing library policies and procedures. Maintain ongoing dialogue with department supervisor addressing issues and or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Proficiency in all Koha (library database) functions i.e. charging and discharging circulating and reserve items, reconciling monies collected for overdue fines and lost item replacement fees, loading patron records, entering notes, etc. Includes the ability to diagnose and resolve patron and item record issues in an efficient and timely manner in line with library policies.
  • Troubleshooting and basic maintenance of library public printers and copiers, i.e. replacing toners, correcting jams, etc. Follow through with recording and reporting out of order equipment.
  • Set up group study room reservations through the online Room Scheduler in line with reservation guidelines and policy.
  • Participate in library projects as they unfold.

Qualifications:
  • Library experience.
  • Flexibility work schedule due to changes in library hours and departmental needs.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Demonstrate reliable punctuality and attendance, as required for position.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and independently.
  • Eager to learn new skills and participate in Human Resource workshops.
  • Exhibit flexibility when challenged by changing workflow priorities.
  • Associate degree required.
  • 3-5 years experience required.
