California State University Dominguez Hills was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise The California State University System. CSU Dominguez Hills is an urban, comprehensive public university that serves a culturally rich, diverse student body of approximately 14,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Located on a 346-acre site in the South Bay portion of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, CSU Dominguez Hills has a highly pluralistic student body, which includes a significant number of non-traditional, working adult students as well as approximately 2,000 students enrolled in distance learning programs statewide. The University, with its five Academic Colleges, has more than 300 full-time faculty members and is situated in an area characterized by an extraordinary heterogeneity of people, and an extensive array of high technology industries and professional services.

Conditions of Employment:

The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

The CSUDH University Library fosters student success, scholarly research, and academic excellence through the provision of user-centered services, collaborations, and learning experiences. The services of the University Library are housed in a 140,000 square foot, five story, energy-efficient addition completed in 2010. The library is home to two 33-capacity instructional labs, 100+ computers, 11 group study rooms, a Technology Checkout Program, multiple quiet study and collaborative spaces, and informal lounge areas interspersed throughout the building and a café. It has emerged as CSUDH students Academic Home away from Home. CSUDH students study in a stunningly beautiful library that contains multicultural artwork reflecting the ethnic and cultural diversity of the campus, the community and the Southern California area. The library houses two art galleries, one space of which is shared with the Faculty Development Center, and the Archives and Special Collections Department.

Major Job Duties:

Under the general direction of the Manager of Access Services and working closely with the Collection Services Coordinator, this position is responsible for coordinating the University Library's Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Services. This service supplements the holdings of the library by processing both borrowing requests from CSUDH patrons' for materials that our library does not own and lending requests from other libraries, utilizing various joint resource sharing systems and cooperative efforts with other libraries. As a member of the Access Services team, the incumbent will also provide excellent customer service at the public service desks and assist in other daily operational activities of the department as needed.

Qualifications:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of interlibrary loan borrowing and lending policies and procedures and applicable work methods.
- Thorough knowledge of online databases and systems and the ability to perform complex searches.
- Demonstrated problem solving and research skills, including the investigation of complex problems requiring the analysis and interpretation of information.
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of lead work direction, including assisting in employee selection, training employees, assigning work, organizing work-flows, establishing priorities, reviewing work, providing input on performance evaluations, and promoting teamwork to optimize effectiveness.
- In-depth knowledge of library operations, materials, services, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of copyright law as it applies to ILL.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service, communicating with patrons, colleagues, and supervisors in a clear, friendly, and helpful manner.
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to apply rules in accordance with policy, regulations, and procedures in varying circumstances.
- Ability to provide information on library policies, procedures, and services to library users.
- Ability to efficiently use standard office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Specialized Materials: The position activities may require the use of the following equipment, machinery, tools,vehicles or office equipment:
PC, library databases, fax machine, integrated library system (currently Millennium)/unified library management system (will be Alma), OCLC, microfilm reader/printer

Experience and Education:

Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education: Completion of a high school education or equivalent certification.

Preferred Education: Bachelors degree.

Required Experience: Two to three years of related library and/or clerical experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Preferred Experience: Four years of ILL experience in a California State University or other academic library. Two or more years of supervisory experience.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this classification is: $3,371 - $5,836 monthly.
