Job Summary:

This position is for an objective level animal research technician (ART). This position will function independently and be knowledgeable in rodent handling and rodent research techniques. This position will be responsible for performing routine animal husbandry tasks and assisting with mouse colony/breeding procedures for the Research Animal Resources Center (RARC) Mouse Breeding Colony. These duties include general animal husbandry, feeding and watering animals, monitoring animal room environments, cleaning primary and secondary enclosures, receiving animals, transporting animals, restraining and handling animals, reporting sick and injured animals, general facility maintenance and housekeeping. ART positions interact with investigators and veterinary staff as required. Other duties to be assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements:

-American Association for Laboratory Animals Science (AALAS) Certification at the Assistant Laboratory Technician (ALAT) or Laboratory Animals Technologist (ALAT) level preferred.
-Physical ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, squat, twist and push carts, bedding, feed bags and equipment up to 50 lbs.
-Long pants and close-toed shoes will be provided by employee.
-Must possess a valid driver's license that meets standards of UW Risk Management in order to operate University vehicles.

Schedule Comment:

Regularly scheduled hours to include weekend work. Holiday hours required. Final schedule will be determined prior to start date.
