Position Summary and Responsibilities The Sergeant is responsible for insuring overall safety & security and for all members of the campus community. They are also trained in CPR/AED and first aid. The Sergeant supervises officers, directs day-to-day operations on their shift and ensures departmental policies / procedures are carried out.The Sergeant must be a trainer, mentor and be able to make decisions that will result in positive outcomes for college.

The Sergeant must be able to supervise effectively, discipline where appropriate, and conduct thorough investigations as warranted. In addition, the Sergeant shall ensure equitable distribution of work and will be assigned certain areas of responsibility as determined by the Director. The position also requires a working knowledge of a dispatch center, emergency management, and computer programs.

Qualifications
Valid New York State Security Officer or police / peace officer certification. Minimum of three years of demonstrated security / police / peace officer supervisory experience. College experience desirable. Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and effective written and verbal skills. Ability to relate to a diverse community of students, faculty, employees and visitors. Valid New York state driver's license required. The candidate must be able to demonstrate, through professional and life experiences, the ability to effectively supervise subordinates in a service oriented atmosphere which calls for quick decisions that affect life and safety issues on a diverse campus. The position also requires a working knowledge of the NYS Penal and Criminal Procedure Laws. Employment is contingent upon successful completion and satisfactory results of criminal background check.
