Degree and area of specialization:

Master's degree required, in relevant discipline preferred. Relevant disciplines include: public health, social sciences, public policy, health education, evaluation research, public health informatics, or related field. Level of appointment will be contingent on relevant work history.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Strong preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the following:
Knowledge of prevention programs that address the reduction of prescription drug/opioid overdose-related deaths and adverse events. At least 2 years of successful and relevant postgraduate professional work experience in utilization of epidemiological concepts, principles, practices, and methods for surveillance, control, and/or prevention of prescription drug/opioid overdose-related deaths and adverse events. Knowledge of public health informatics, data and information systems. Knowledge of principles of program planning, implementation, evaluation. Extensive computer and statistical analysis programming skills using database and statistical software such as R, SQL, SAS or SPSS. Experience in data analysis and in applying analysis and research to policy and program development in public health. Experience in producing effective reports for public health audiences, policy-makers and the public. Ability to translate analytic findings for use by professional public health and community audiences. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to connect research/analytic results to programs and policies.

Position Summary:

This position provides expert consultation, technical assistance, and interpretation concerning research and statistical methods, findings from reports and special projects, and their direct application to agency operations. The position will develop and implement new data analysis reports and studies using population, administrative and clinical health data to support grants that address prescription drug/opioid overdose related deaths and adverse event. Knowledge of public health informatics is critical as are skills in planning; coordinating; and conducting evaluation. Strong oral communication and writing skills are desired.

Additional Information:

Applicants should have interest in applied research in population health, epidemiology, public health and public health informatics. Experience and knowledge of research methods in population health are necessary. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, as well as demonstrated experience with advanced statistical analysis programming and analysis skills. We are looking for a mix of organizational, analytical, and writing skills.

Prefix assignment determined by years of relevant work experience.

This position will be housed at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

Some travel within Wisconsin is required, and candidate must be qualified to drive a University car and/or able to provide own means of transportation.
