The University of Delaware invites applications for two positions of Academic Program Coordinator, Student Support Services Program. The Center for Academic Success assists the University of Delaware with the retention of students through its collection of academic support programs, services and activities. The Student Support Services Program (SSSP) within the Center for Academic Success, is a TRIO program funded by the U.S. Department of Education that provides academic assistance, personal support, cultural enrichment, and individual support for eligible undergraduate students at the University of Delaware. Under the general direction of the Academic Program Manager, the Academic Program Coordinator assists in the identification and selection of SSSP participants, provides a full range of general counseling/mentoring activities and acts as an advocate for students having difficulties.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides individual and group counseling for students and documents counseling/mentoring activities.
  • Develops, adopts, enforces, oversees, and/or implements policies and procedures on a range of student affairs issues; coordinates and enforces policies and procedures, and ensures compatibility with university-wide policies.
  • Determines and interprets student services needs on an individual basis, and initiates referrals to appropriate student and/or academic services; advises students on policy issues, acts as student advocate, and resolves problems as necessary.
  • Monitors the progress of at-risk students in special academic circumstances to improve retention of all enrolled students, and provides special assistance in university-wide efforts to increase retention.
  • Assists in the recruitment and selection of Student Support Services Program participants.
  • Collects and analyzes data, develops reports and standards designed to evaluate effectiveness of programs and services; maintains and updates publication information on Student Support Services website and other social media venues; maintains correspondence with SSSP alumni.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred, in education, educational administration, counseling, career counseling, student development, social work or other related field and three years' experience related to position responsibilities.
  • At least two years' experience providing services to individuals at risk, preferably in a postsecondary setting.
  • Training or experience in issues pertaining to college student development, counseling theories and practices, using diagnostic tests in counseling, career development and multicultural topics.
  • Knowledge of retention issues and strategies pertaining to project-eligible participants and of postsecondary institutional and community resources.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge and understanding of academic policies and procedures; experience with UDSIS preferred; ability to evaluate student transcripts and/or records and to communicate course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements
