Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's Degree Required.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, or a related area, is preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Minmum of 1 year of experience; the competitive candidate will have an understanding of electronic health record (EHR) systems, data, and organization; knowledge of SQL and database concepts; and demonstrable programming skills in SQL. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is also highly desirable: report design, data querying, data mining, ontologies (especially in a clinical context), EHR and/or Epic/Clarity specific data structures, HIPAA and other regulations governing EHR data.
Preferred:
A successful candidate will possess: 1) Excellent oral and written communication skills. 2) The ability to stay current on new biomedical informatics concepts and methodologies. 3) Working knowledge of SQL and common SQL tools. 5) Familiarity with warehouse database design concepts. 6) Understanding of common clinical terminologies (ICD9/10, SNOMED, CPT, etc.). 7) Demonstrated background of strong analytic and communication skills.

Position Summary:

Working in the Biomedical Informatics Core (BMIC) of the Institute of Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) and the UW-Health's Enterprise Analytics- Data Management (EA-DM), the successful candidate will serve as the interface between faculty conducting clinical research projects and the rapidly evolving electronic health data warehouse in EA-DM. EA-DM is primarily dedicated to developing data warehousing capabilities for the UW-Health system, with a main purpose being to advance cutting edge clinical research based on available information in the clinical record. A key activity of this position will be to work with both clinical researchers and other BMIC staff to help to develop queries that translate research objectives into datasets retrieved from the data available in the data warehouse.
