Business Systems Support Specialist - Athletics

CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

Under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Athletic Director - Finance, Analytics and Operations, the Business Systems Support Specialist will identify, gather, record, and analyze user-centered business and functional requirements to build, plan, implement and continuously improve enterprise business processes, system enhancement and information system workflow for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services (DIARS) at the University of Delaware. The Business Systems Support Specialist will evaluate, prioritize and document data available across the entire DIARS software system portfolio to plan, design and implement data governance policies, as well as provide best-in-class end-user support and ensure that software assets are utilized at maximum capacity. The Business Systems Support Specialist must demonstrate exceptional knowledge of business systems and business process improvement with strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a strong understanding of IT resource management, enabling technologies and industry trends.

The Business Systems Support Specialist will collaborate with the DIARS Information Technology Manager to build, plan and run a high-performing information technology environment and computing operations team that will maximize the use of technology to create efficient, effective, and transparent ways to work within and across the department and university community.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Information/Data Management and Analysis
  • Analyze and document DIARS systems portfolio, related systems data, and business processes to identify value-add opportunities and create business systems recommendations and enhancement plans
  • Create, implement and audit data governance and information security policies for DIARS enterprise systems, including information availability, assurance, and storage in according with central-IT policy, guidelines and industry best practices
  • Document, manage and steward data relationships across the entire DIARS business system portfolio, including database schema, system interactions, and overlap
  • Provide key recommendations, implementation roadmaps and change management communication plans for information systems upgrades and business process updates
  • Participate in the planning, testing and implementation of business system enhancement projects, including the creation of business system performance metrics and IT service level expectations
  • Coordinate and consult with stakeholders to facilitate the gathering, definition and testing of business and systems requirements for information technology systems and business process implementations
  • Lead initiatives to attain best-in-class information technology within DIARS to ensure high quality integration of data and service performance to meet and/or exceed stakeholder expectations, leveraging opportunities for collaboration within the DIARS community and Central IT
  • Query information systems, create reports, interpret results and present to a variety of DIARS stakeholders and audience levels as appropriate

Software/Business Support
  • Proactively identify/triage issues and use creative problem solving skills to resolve system issues, business process inquiries and quickly diagnose, communicate, and expedite critical event response and resolution
  • Apply critical thinking skills and business knowledge to identify issues and propose solutions
  • Identify business system problems and lead/assist others in root cause analysis
  • Review production metrics to monitor system performance, data quality and integrity, and to identify problems and trends on a daily basis through the use of automated reporting, dashboards, etc.
  • Design and implement data connections among software systems as appropriate in partnership with the Information Technology Manager and Central IT
  • Acquire, share and present knowledge of important technology trends relevant to DIARS community needs, and provide strategic recommendations for technology evaluation, testing, procurement, testing, implementation, integration, lifecycle policy and resource management in partnership with the Information Technology Manager and consultation with the Senior Associate Athletic Director - Finance, Analytics and Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, computer science, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3 to 5 years progressively responsible experience as a Business Systems Analyst
  • Substantial exposure to data processing, hardware platforms, enterprise software applications (local and cloud), and internal and external/vendor systems
  • Proficient understanding of information systems characteristics, features, system-to-system integration capabilities, testing and stakeholder feedback management
  • Experience with information systems design, testing and implementation from business requirements analysis through day-to-day operations
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills with proven ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate and implement strategic plans and programs that support the Athletic Department mission and fulfill customer expectations by developing solutions that provide value
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with multiple types of stakeholders in a positive and productive manner while maintaining utmost integrity, confidentiality and adhering to the compliance rules of the NCAA and the University of Delaware Athletic Department
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects and prioritize workload with a strong sense of ownership and urgency to meet deadlines in a dynamic, challenging and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to provide creative problem-solving, technical leadership and team building in a dynamic environment with complex business requirements
  • Ability to work effectively as a collaborative leader in a positive, team-oriented environment
  • May need to work some weekends and evenings

Special Requirements
  • Occasional travel for business meetings across the university and IT vendor conferences may be required
  • Preferred experience may include: business systems analyst, business processing consulting, database systems, enterprise computing, incident management, change management, ITIL, Project Management certification, (PMI), Lean methodology, Agile software development, and/or user-centered design
