Degree and area of specialization:

Master's degree in business, business administration, health services administration, public administration, public health or related field is required.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Five plus years progressively responsible professional experience with a record of significant accomplishments preferably in an academic medical center is required. Demonstrated experience overseeing administrative and operational processes and resources for clinical faculty as well as an in-depth understanding of academic medicine's multiple missions of education, research, clinical and community service is highly preferred. Well-qualified candidates will have worked in a management role in a healthcare organization with progressively responsible experience in operational and administrative management. Experience managing the revenue cycle in an academic medical environment where several programmatic and budgetary processes co-exist and interact along with experience, in-depth knowledge and proficiency in various budgeting and financial software tools is strongly preferred.

Demonstrated skill and experience in leading and managing a professional management staff with diverse responsibilities. This includes skill and experience in leading and participating in committees, task forces, executive-level meetings, etc. Superior oral, written, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively communicate and interact with faculty, residents, students, clinical and non-clinical staff, alumni, and external stakeholders is a must.

Position Summary:

The UW School of Medicine and Public Health's Department of Psychiatry consists of 48 faculty, 30 non-physician providers, 79 clinical and research staff, 23 research and 38 clinical employees in training, as well as four fellowship programs, and approximately 94 clinical adjunct faculty. The University of Wisconsin Department of Psychiatry is a leading academic department with robust clinical and research programs. The clinical program includes outpatient visits nearing 46,000 per year, inpatient days slightly above 6,500 per year and ongoing plans for expansion across all missions including comprehensive behavioral health integration throughout UW Health. Research funding is significant and increasing totaling $13 million last fiscal year Total Department annual revenues for fiscal year 2016 were $27 million.
