Marketing Publisher

Position Overview

Stories engage us. Stories touch our emotions and educate us. They allow us to adopt the experiences and knowledge of others. They build affection and trust. As prospective students consider which school to attend, they seek out stories. They want to know about current students, alumni, faculty, support services, curriculum details, program specifics and more. Other local stakeholders want to learn about the school s delivery of its mission to educate students and bolster the community.

The University of Kansas Edwards Campus (KUEC) seeks to improve the quantity and quality of stories consumed by prospective students and other stakeholders. To do so, we seek a marketing publisher to act as the chief storyteller for KUEC. The marketing publisher s days will be filled with
  • Understanding strategies, goals, KPIs, objectives, target audiences and key messages of the campus and individual programs and units within it so that the marketing publisher can recommend and implement communication strategies and tactics.
  • Personally writing, producing and distributing stories in the forms of emails, web pages, blog posts, webinars, presentations, newsletters, etc.
  • Editing content prepared by others.
  • Scanning internal information and external trends to identify opportunities for media pitches.
  • Writing and distributing press releases (in partnership with other KU entities).
  • Coaching and supporting other content production team members, especially marketing journalists and copywriters.
  • In collaboration with other marketing team members, reporting and analyzing the results of content produced and shared.
  • Staying current on best practices and changes in marketing and higher education.

This position is a combination of hands-on individual contribution and collaboration. To complete the position s duties and to assist other team members in their duties, the marketing publisher will work closely with the rest of the marketing team including the graphic designer, marketing journalists, copywriter, digital strategist, analyst and management.

The marketing publisher reports to the KUEC Director of Marketing and Public Relations. This position may manage others in the future.
