The Position:
Applications are now being accepted for the position of Assistant Professor/Human Services at San Diego City College beginning Fall, 2017. One of three colleges in the San Diego Community College District, City College is an urban campus, minutes away from a world-class zoo and Balboa Park, providing academic and vocational offerings to meet the needs of a diverse student population.

Assignment may include some combination of day, evening, Saturday, and/or off-campus classes. While the current vacancy is at City College, applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment at any District facility at the option of the Chancellor.

The Assistant Professor of Behavioral Sciences/ Human Services is a member of the Behavioral Sciences Department and reports to the Dean of the School of Behavioral & Social Sciences and Consumer & Family Studies. The Behavioral Sciences Department includes the disciplines of Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Alcohol & Other Drug Studies, Human Services, Future Studies, and Peace Studies.

Major Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities for the new Behavioral Sciences/Human Services faculty member include teaching social work related courses: Introduction to Social Work, Field Work in Social Services, Family Support Models, Introduction to Human Aging, Diversity and Cultural Competency and Public Assistance Benefits.The teaching assignment includes 15 class hours per week with some evening classes. Additional responsibilities of the San Diego City College faculty include maintaining regular office hours for student advisement, serving on College and District committees, participating in departmental and campus activities, developing curriculum and programs, and willingness to take leadership roles in the department.

Qualifications:
Any bachelors degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.

Desired Qualifications:
Evidence of Masters or Doctoral Degree in Social Work and/or Human Services from an accredited institution. Evidence of recent experience teaching Social Work and/or Human Services courses. Evidence of outstanding oral and written communication skills Evidence of ability to teach effectively by demonstrating a working knowledge of varied student engagement and teaching techniques, including effective evaluation of student performance Evidence of involvement with or preparation in non-traditional teaching methods and technologies, specifically utilizing technology in the classroom, online teaching and/or preparation for online teaching Evidence of recent professional development activities that indicate up-to-date broad knowledge in the fields of Social Work and/or of Human Services Evidence of previous experience developing and/or reviewing courses, curriculum, and/or new programs Evidence of experience in planning, organizing or managing community and/or academic programs and participation in outreach activities Evidence of effective collegial collaboration and leadership skills Evidence of cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff Working knowledge of the California Community College mission

Pay Information:
Class 1, Step A Class 6, Step C ($5,658.89 $7,625.90) per month based on the current AFT College Faculty Tenured- Tenured Track Monthly Salary Schedule

Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.2 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made with-in the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.
