Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's degree preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

3 years of experience required in high volume payroll, familiarity with HRS/PeopleSoft, payroll taxes and tax compliance. This position will have in-depth working knowledge in all aspects of Payroll and an understanding of the impact on Human Resources and Benefits. Prior experience establishing and implementing procedures and creating comprehensive training materials strongly preferred. Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Position Summary:

This position serves as the Divisional Payroll Liaison (DPL) and reports to the Payroll Services Manager in the Office of Human Resources (OHR). This position will develop and coordinate a UW-Madison Payroll certification and credentialing program and provide education and training for staff to become credentialed in various facets of payroll processing. The DPL will review existing Payroll procedures to identify inefficiencies, barriers and outdated practices. DPL will work with Division to develop, recommend and coordinate the implementation of new processes, automation of services and make recommendations to optimize payroll operations. DPL will provide guidance regarding Payroll best practices and will work with Division to develop and implement processes and procedures within a best practice framework. DPL will advise and trouble shoot on high-level and complex Payroll issues and will work collaboratively with Divisional and departmental staff to assist and facilitate skill and knowledge retention.
