Job Summary:

The Department of Bacteriology is a very large University Department consisting of many programs. The Department has approximately 200 appointments totaling $6 million coordinated by the Payroll and Benefits Office. The Payroll and Benefits Office is staffed by the Payroll and Benefits Specialist Advanced who is responsible for all aspects of coordinating and processing of payroll and benefit information for the faculty, academic staff, graduate students, honorary fellows and employees-in-training appointments of the division and programs assigned to their position.

Under the general supervision of the Academic Department Manager, the position is responsible for coordinating and processing classified and unclassified appointments and administering the fringe benefits programs associated with each, and managing other payroll-related activities. Duties include appointment and payroll production and processing, counseling employees on fringe benefits, participating in grant tracking and projecting appointment assignments into future semesters and arranging for appropriate visas for international employees. This position provides sensitive information to the Academic Department Manager and the Department Chair relative to the situations involving the Family and Medical Leave Act, Income Continuation Insurance and Worker's Compensation which may be used in various personnel actions. Duties also include knowledge of UW Academic Staff, Faculty, and University Staff Policies and Procedures and Union Contracts (where relevant).
