Media Workflow and Archive Specialist



MEDIA WORKFLOW AND ARCHIVE SPECIALIST, Office of Digital Learning (ODL)-MIT Video Production (MVP), to handle the day-to-day technical operation of MVP's post-production equipment, digital workflow, and archives. Will operate, support, and maintain software and hardware technologies used in MVP's video storage and database systems; research and recommend system upgrades or changes; and communicate with internal users and external contractors. Other responsibilities include participating in strategic planning and staying abreast of developments in video technology products, services, and trends; creating and managing optimal workflow systems; developing and implementing technical policies and procedures; training editors on archival systems and practices; receiving, inventorying, preserving, maintaining, and restoring media assets and materials; providing ongoing system support and maintenance to ensure archive integrity; and reconciling and organizing data and reports.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree; at least four years' professional experience in video, film, or television, preferably in post-production technical support and video post-production workflows; knowledge of digital video systems and streaming technologies, common compression codecs, video editing, and multimedia software (including Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Final Cut Pro X, Avid Media Composer, Motion, Compressor, and Photoshop); expert-level knowledge of media asset management and archiving systems, including metadata creation, file management, and storage; ability to manage a mixed Mac/Windows environment and knowledge of each platform's operating and data organizational systems; strong understanding of LAN and fiber-connected SAN technologies and server maintenance; experience with digital asset management systems; and familiarity with database software (e.g., FileMaker) and digital media archiving (e.g., LTO). Experience writing and implementing custom scripts in UNIX CLI, BASH, Python, PHP, or similar language preferred; as is familiarity with digital and analog audio and video formats and equipment.
