Position/Job Summary

Carry out the operation, repair, service and preventative maintenance of College heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment to include pneumatic controls, direct digital controls, microprocessors and software for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, humidity, and lab hoods. Calibrate related equipment and controls. Install, operate, service and repair conventional mechanical refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. Assist in the tracking and maintaining of refrigeration equipment and records to ensure compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency regulations. The incumbent is subject to being on-call twenty-four hours a day, seven days per week on a scheduled basis. The position is also considered to be essential during emergency situations and the incumbent is subject to being requested to report to work.

Position/Job Responsibilities

1. Install, operate, service and repair conventional mechanical refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. Ensure compliance with EPA rules & regulations and enter and maintain computerized records.

2. Assist in the maintaining of the database used for tracking refrigeration equipment to include data entry, assigning of tracking numbers and generating records and reports. Assist in the maintaining of all records needed for compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency regulations.

3. Perform tasks in the repair, service and maintenance of pneumatic controls, direct digital controls, microprocessors and software for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, humidity, and lab hoods. Calibrate related equipment and controls.

4. Repair of kitchen equipment, including gas, electric and steam. This includes but is not limited to; dish machines, ovens, steamers, coolers, slicers and various other bakery and food preparation equipment.

5. Provide guidance to various master mechanics, and mechanics as appropriate.

6. Install, service and repair piping of pumps, refrigeration systems, and control valves.

7. Participate in establishing and maintaining a schedule of preventive maintenance.

8. Use a Tablet to review service requests from the computerized service request system and update the request as needed.

9. Engage in a Professional Development plan. Participate in workshops, seminars, and training sessions to remain in compliance with state and federal regulations and changing technology Participate in meetings as directed.

10. Review blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures.

11. Ensure security of vehicles, tools and other equipment.

12. Provide direction and assistance to outside contractors as directed.

13. Maintain, replace and repair electrical motors and variable speed drives.

14. Clean, control, adjust and maintain treated and untreated, distilled/deionized/DE chlorinated water systems, soft water systems, and all heating and cooling systems. Prepare and maintain charts and records and analyze data obtained from the various systems.

15. Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area. Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with the campus community.

16. Assume additional responsibilities as assigned and respond to calls for service, before, during, and after normal business hours as requested.

Position/Job Qualifications

Formal training beyond high school and a minimum of 5 years' experience as an HVAC Mechanic, knowledge of regulatory codes, ability to read and utilize schematics and blueprints, and ability to perform installation and repairs. Experience in a variety of HVAC related and direct digital control software programs, refrigerant systems and record keeping, strong attention to detail, strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, ability to lift 80 lbs., experience and ability to operate a variety of power/hand tools and testing device. A valid Driver's License. A NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation license in pesticide application Group 7G, and/or EPA license for refrigeration. Ability to respond to calls twenty-four hours per day seven days per week is required. The incumbent will be on call on a rotating basis.
