About the Position

Reporting to the Director of Transition Support Services and Training, the Spartan Scholars Program Coordinator provides leadership and coordination of the university's student transition program, which includes direct supervision of one graduate student intern, and a group of student assistant workers and temporary staff. This position works towards establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with community college and high school counselors and district leaders. Working independently, the position is responsible for the planning and implementation of a comprehensive, multifaceted orientation program for new students and the successful transition of current students to alumni.

The Spartan Scholars Program Coordinator works collaboratively with several departments and constituents, to develop a proactive orientation and intensive learning program, that empowers and prepares students to succeed academically and personally. The position will work collaboratively with educational institutions and faculty to address and improve academic deficiencies in prospective students through an intensive learning program that will aid them in achieving and maintaing college level academic work prior to University enrollment. The position will work with Academic Affairs to develop the Spartan Scholars Program improve the undergraduate orientation and welcoming process to the University, working towards increasing college preparedness, student retention, and graduation rates. The position will provide vision, strategic direction, and accountability for developing programs and services that support undergraduates' academic transition and success in collaboration with other units (such as Undergraduate Education Programs, Advising Services, Institutional Research and Planning, Academic Departments and College Deans, and Admissions). The position will provide instructional leadership and curriculum development feedback for the English and math programs. Develops, reviews, and revises program curriculum in order to best serve a diverse student population. Provides coordination and outreach of the Spartan Scholars Program, which includes two grad interns, several student assistants and temporary staff. This position will also provide ongoing outreach efforts to K-12, high schools and community colleges. This position will assist with the coordination of College Day; African College Readiness Summits; the Advancing Latino/an Achievement and Success (ALAS) Conference and planning other summits, presentations that support Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and Native Americans.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Plans and implements a strategic plan for the Spartan Scholars Program, focusing on short term specific deliverables and long term strategic goals.
- Works towards designing and executing the Spartan Scholars Program, working towards improving student academic success.
- Designs, implements, and assesses a successful orientation and transition experience for all new students (freshman and transfer students) in order to further promote the university's mission, core beliefs, and graduation rates.
- Develops priorities and goals that support the learning experience for undergraduate students.
- Collaborate with instructors/faculty on the maintenance of the program, curriculum and the selection and use of instructional materials.
- Participates in the campus and local community; attends institutional/public functions.
- Designs, implements, and assesses a successful transition experience for those graduating to help ensure alumni success and continued connection to the University as alumni.
- Meets with students to conduct oral interviews, assist in the completion of forms and processes, provides needs assessment, and tracks progress towards graduation.
- Develops assessment tools for operational, technical, and communication activities in an educational setting and use of assessment results to make positive changes in services to students.
