The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at San José State University (SJSU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the broad area of Geomatics.

Requirements: Applicants must have a PhD in civil engineering or a closely related civil engineering field by start of appointment. Candidates must have demonstrable experience in Geomatics. Candidates must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching in classroom and laboratory settings using a variety of pedagogical techniques and technological tools to reach a diverse population. They must be able to lead the department in a redesign of the current surveying/drafting curriculum and teach a modern curriculum that meets industry and accreditation standards in Geomatics (GIS, CAD and/or surveying) using modern civil engineering tools that will prepare students for licensure and to enter industry. An ability to teach in a variety of civil engineering areas and the ability to obtain a professional license are desirable. Candidates should also demonstrate potential for excellence in scholarly research, with an expectation of peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations. The position requires excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. Applicants should demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross- cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.

Responsibilities: Candidates must address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement. In addition to teaching engineering courses, faculty members in the department are expected to develop curricula and laboratories and should plan to establish externally funded research programs and publish peer-reviewed papers. Faculty members advise, develop curricula in their field of expertise, and teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Faculty participate in shared governance, usually through committee and service at the department, college, and University levels.

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Starting Date: August 21, 2017
