Position/Job Summary

Assist with the planning, design, development, and implementation of technical database solutions in support of the College's centrally maintained data repositories. Work with application developers and the functional user community to address known database problems, define upgrade paths and strategies, and implement identified solutions. Install, maintain, and upgrade application software related to enterprise applications and specified departmental solutions. Participate in vendor presentations and assist with selection of vendors and solutions. Move approved code changes for both application and database objects to the production environments. Follow digital instruction and technology services standards and assist in preparing and updating documentation. Work with systems administrators, network engineers, and others to monitor and improve system performance, availability, and security. Participate in monitoring, evaluating, and upgrading systems, databases, applications, and related software. Work with endpoint systems administrators and technicians to ensure that enterprise applications and endpoint configurations are compatible. Ensure appropriate help information is available for students, faculty, staff, and other users of College databases and enterprise applications.

1. Develop and maintain knowledge of database theory, operating principles, and technical expertise to support the planning, design, and general administration and architecture of the College's centrally maintained database repositories.

2. Assist with planning efforts associated with the ongoing support and upgrades of database management software and related tools and technologies.

3. Develop and maintain knowledge of the architecture, structure, and general content of all centrally maintained database repositories.

4. Review applications, services, and databases to ensure they are installed and configured according to pertinent College policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines regarding security and architecture.

5. Install, maintain, and upgrade enterprise application software and some departmental application software. Assist functional users in troubleshooting and resolving application issues, including working with vendor support on behalf of the functional user.

6. Move approved code changes to production environments.

7. Participate in efforts to ensure complete and comprehensive backup and recovery strategies are developed and instituted for all central databases and applications. Monitor and test backup processes to ensure compliance, continuity, effectiveness, and the ability to recover completely from virtually any type of database and/or application related failure.

8. Participate in comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery planning efforts in conjunction with other members of Digital Instruction and Information Services and the campus community in order to formulate adequate backup and recovery plans and procedures.

9. Continually monitor databases and platforms, and work with other members of the Architecture and Infrastructure team to maximize the performance, availability, and security of all centrally maintained repositories, and to provide advice and assistance.

10. Provide technical assistance, documentation, and general support for Digital Instruction and Information Services staff to facilitate application development and successful integration of various systems, solutions, and services.

11. Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful College community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students and visitors to the College. Position/Job Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a technical or computer related field and a minimum of 3 years experience working with relational database systems in a Microsoft Windows or UNIX environment, or the equivalent technical credentials and experience; good communication skills (written, oral and presentation), ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively on technical issues with non-technical personnel; good organizational and analytical skills, the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems and implement appropriate solutions, and the ability to establish and meet deadlines in a service oriented environment are required.

Desired Qualifications
Minimum 3 years' experience as an Oracle DBA . Experience with Tomcat, Apache, IIS and/or Oracle Web Logic Server. Experience supporting an enterprise level application including applying patches, planning/implementing upgrades. Additional experience with Microsoft SQLServer, Oracle MySql or Mariadb will be a plus.
