Job Description Summary

The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture ( APLA ) at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a dual appointment in the Interior Architecture and Architecture programs commencing August 2017.

APLA has a 109-year history of educating architects, interior architects, landscape architects and planners. The school contributes to the region and to the profession through outreach, scholarship and creative work. APLA has three allied degree programs: Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Interior Architecture and Master of Landscape Architecture. The Bachelor of Interior Architecture is offered as an imbedded dual-degree with the first-professional Bachelor of Architecture degree. This year APLA celebrates 90 years of interior design education and 20 years since the founding of the Interior Architecture dual-degree program. APLA resides in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction along with the McWhorter School of Building Science and the School of Industrial and Graphic Design.

The Interior Architecture program seeks candidates with a strong interest in the inter-disciplinary field of Interior Architecture. The successful candidate will be required to maintain an active scholarly program disseminated through appropriate disciplinary, peer-reviewed venues. Funding is available to support these activities. Responsibilities of the appointment include teaching design studios in interior architecture and architecture and lectures/seminars in one or more of the following topic areas:
- Emerging computation and fabrication processes
- Visualization including environmental performance simulation and/or material/spatial imagination
- History & theory of interior architecture

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must hold a master's degree in architecture or other terminal degree in a related discipline.

Desired Qualifications

Desired qualifications include: demonstrated ability to teach design studio and related courses in the topic areas described above, evidence of research/creative scholarship or the ability to develop an active research/creative scholarly program, evidence of outstanding design skills, experience in professional practice, professional registration and advanced degrees in Interior Architecture or related design fields. The successful candidate will be a creative designer whose work is grounded in contemporary practice.
